Bremen is a Free Hanseatic City of 570,000 in northwest Germany on the River Weser, 110 km west of Hamburg. UNESCO World Heritage Town Hall + Roland Statue (1404), the Bremen Town Musicians fairy-tale donkey-dog-cat-rooster statue beside it, the medieval craftsmen quarter Schnoor, and Beck's brewery on the Weser south bank. Four quality hostels span the unique IndoorCampingHostel concept (HafenTraum in Walle with caravans and VW T2 buses pitched indoors), the most-reviewed central pick (Altstadt Hostel on Am Wall opposite the Wallanlagen squirrels), the Weser-view DJH (Jugendherberge with private bathrooms in every room), and the closest-to-nightlife (Townside on the western edge of the Viertel bohemian district). Backpackers come for the Hanseatic UNESCO core, stay for the bike-friendly flatness (25% of all city trips by bike), Beck's tours at €15, and currywurst at €4. Cuxhavener Straße 7, Walle, 28217 Bremen — port-industrial west of the centre, 4 km from the Marktplatz, 4 km from Bremen Hauptbahnhof, 7 km from Bremen Airport. Tram 2 from Hauptbahnhof to Use Akschen stop (12 min) drops you 200 m from the door. The neighbourhood (Walle) is residential-port: working harbour, the old fish market 500 m away, Lloyd Caffee roastery 800 m, and the Überseestadt regeneration district with restaurants and the Speicher 11 design museum 1.5 km along the Weser quay.

The DJH-chain youth hostel building is a 6-storey modern structure with floor-to-ceiling Weser-view windows on the south side; the upper-floor corner rooms (Nancy from the US specifically called out room 6 corner for cross-breeze) get the panoramic river view that anchors the property. Eighteen-minute walk to Bremen Hauptbahnhof; tram 6 from Domsheide (5 min walk) to airport in 12 min.

Am Wall 55, Mitte, 28195 Bremen — directly on Am Wall, the boulevard that follows the line of the old city wall ramparts (now a green park strip with the windmill at Wallanlagen 200 m east). Five minutes south to Marktplatz with the Town Hall, Roland Statue and Cathedral; six minutes east to Schnoor; eight minutes north to Bürgerweide and the convention quarter; sixteen minutes north to Bremen Hauptbahnhof. The Wallanlagen park (with squirrels reviewers feed) starts across the street.

The supermarket is 200 m down Am Dobben (couples rate the location 9.1 — the highest two-person score of any Bremen hostel).
