§ 01 — Summary

Part of the Generator chain, located on Smithfield Square. Restaurant, bar, ping-pong, and a pet-friendly policy. Large modern hostel with family rooms and accessible facilities.

§ 02 — The full story

Generator Dublin sits on Smithfield Square, the creative hub of Dublin's north side. Part of the international Generator chain, it brings the same formula that works in Barcelona, Rome, and Amsterdam: large, design-conscious spaces, a restaurant-bar, and enough social programming to keep the common areas alive.

The building is spacious. Common rooms are generous, outdoor patios give you room to breathe, and the ping-pong table sees constant action. The on-site restaurant means you don't need to leave for meals, and the bar draws both guests and locals from the Smithfield neighborhood.

Smithfield itself is one of Dublin's most interesting areas. The Cobblestone pub (2-minute walk) has the best traditional music sessions in Dublin. The Light House Cinema shows indie films. Jameson Distillery is next door. It's a different Dublin from the Temple Bar tourist corridor.

The trade-off with Generator is always the same: it's big. You won't get the intimate vibe of a 30-bed hostel. But the facilities are professional, the cleaning is constant (reviewers note this specifically), and the chain's experience shows in the operations. Pet-friendly rooms are a unique touch. Wheelchair-accessible facilities too.

§ 03 — Why we love it
  • 01Smithfield Square location is the best neighborhood for authentic Dublin experience.
  • 02The Cobblestone pub next door has better trad music than any Temple Bar venue.
  • 03Generator-quality facilities: spacious common areas, on-site restaurant-bar, professional staff.
  • 04Pet-friendly rooms. Bring your travel companion.
  • 05Cleaning is constant. Multiple reviewers call it the cleanest hostel they've stayed in.
